...’Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.’... Matthew 11:28-30
Is it not amazing that there is Someone we can take our burdens to? Carrying them on our own not only wears us out emotionally and mentally but also drains us physically. I am sure you know who this Someone is... Yes, it is Jesus! He is never too tired or too busy to meet our needs, especially in these troubled times with the Corona virus causing so much suffering and death!
During His ministry on earth Jesus taught that Humility and Servanthood cannot be separated from each other. In humility, He was born in a stable (not a palace), He was buried in a borrowed tomb (belonging to Joseph of Arimathea). Those who believed in Jesus found rest, healing, deliverance, hope and correction, according to their needs when they came to Him.
Focusing on the Humility of Jesus, He knew who He was. Laying aside His Majesty, He came down to earth to show the Love of God. Jesus explains “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does.....” John 5:19. Do we obey the Father in this way? To spend time with Him as Jesus did?
‘He came down not to be served, but to serve, and to give His Life as a ransom for many’ Matthew 20:28. Jesus never promoted Himself, He said, ‘I came down from heaven not to do My Will but to do the Will of the One who sent Me’ John 6:38.
Read John 13. Here the Son of Man washes the feet of His disciples in all Humility and explains why this virtue is so important! Can you imagine the state of those feet after traveling by foot on dusty roads? Yet, Jesus humbled Himself as the Servant Leader! He used Love not force, not coercion but reasoned persuasion. The perfect example for those who are willing to follow Him! This went deeper than a physical washing.
‘The Word became flesh and lived among us’... John 1:14 giving us the opportunity to gain more than this passing world had to offer. To Become citizens in God’s Kingdom a price had to be paid which Jesus did, saying ‘It is finished!’ Then He bowed His head and gave up His Spirit. John 19:30. He paid the Ransom in full for each of us in complete Humility.
Thank You Lord Jesus for Your Sacrificial Obedience! Amen🪔
